Nago Sake Brewery
Abu Town, Yamaguchi Pref.
In one corner of town stand rows of traditional Machiya and imposing two-story Kura. What looks like a single house is in fact a vast former sake brewery, spanning the size of four traditional buildings. Once the residence of a local dignitary, it impresses with its lavish construction and elegant gardens facing every room. The brewery itself, with its towering brick chimney—a local landmark—is a magnificent timber-framed hall reminiscent of a temple, offering a glimpse into traditional sake brewing. Preserved for over a century, this rare property lies in Nago Town, surrounded by rich nature and facing the sea. Hot springs and beaches are close by, daily essentials like schools and supermarkets are within walking distance, and Hagi castle town is just a 30 minutes drive away.
